Around the NFL: Ravens West

The Chargers are reportedly kicking the tires on J.K. Dobbins. He's coming off a torn Achilles, the second time in three years he's had his season wiped out by a major injury. But he's healthy now (according to his doctor) and the landing spot would certainly get him on the radar.   more »

Trivia: March 28, 2024

Forty years ago today (tonight, rather) the Colts packed up and left Baltimore, with no public announcement. What company moved the franchise to Indianapolis? answer »

Factoid: Evan Engram

I sure like Evan Engram a lot. Not so much because of his hands, speed or any other quality, but because of the offense he’s in.   more »

Around the NFL: Cordarrelle Patterson

A while back I published something skeptical about Jaylen Warren, concerned that he wouldn't get enough weekly touches while splitting time with Najee Harris. Looks like Pittsburgh might be going one step further in complicating this backfield, having now signed Cordarrelle Patterson.   more »

Trivia: March 27, 2024

NFL offenses last year averaged 38.3 touchdowns (23.6 passing, 14.7 rushing). What three teams were able to win their divisions despite having offenses that finished below that level? answer »

Factoid: Mike Williams

I was looking some at Mike Williams, who recently signed with the Jets, and the numbers look a little better than I thought. He could prove to be a nice pickup.   more »

Around the NFL: What rebuild?

The dust has settled after the major waves of the free agency period, and a couple of teams were surprisingly (to me, anyway) aggressive. Both the Washington Commanders and Tennessee Titans looked like teams in line to slowly build around young quarterbacks and draft picks, but instead they opened up their wallets for some veterans.   more »

Trivia: March 26, 2024

Cleveland last year allowed 333 fewer yards than any other team yet ranked only 13th in scoring defense. What was the last defense to allow the fewest yards in the league while ranking even lower in scoring defense? It came from 1998. answer »

Factoid: D'Andre Swift

I was not crazy about Chicago’s decision to sign D’Andre Swift. Are we sure he’s much of an upgrade over the running backs they already have?   more »

Around the NFL: Gus Edwards

The Chargers let Austin Ekeler walk in free agency, replacing him with Gus Edwards. If anyone needed a crystal-clear message about how different the offense will be under Jim Harbaugh and Greg Roman this year, there it is.   more »

Trivia: March 25, 2024

DJ Moore last year accounted for 44 percent of Chicago’s receiving production. He caught 96 passes for 1,364 yards, and the team finished with 3,096 passing yards. What is the last team that had a pass catcher finished with an even larger share of its receiving production? answer »

Factoid: Keaton Mitchell

The Ravens signed Derrick Henry. He could be good at closing out games for them, and I expect he’ll lead them in rushing. But I’ll be interested in seeing what they do with Keaton Mitchell.   more »

Factoid: Top 10 wide receivers

Follow-up to yesterday's article, where I proposed New England should think about taking the NFL Draft's top wide receiver rather than a quarterback at No. 3 overall. If I'm going to say that, it's reasonable to look at the recent hit rate wide receivers selected that early.   more »

Trivia: March 24, 2024

What is the only team that currently has on its roster two running backs who caught 50-plus passes last year? answer »

Around the NFL: Brandon Aiyuk

I see Brandon Aiyuk was posting on social media, encouraging the Steelers to make a trade offer for him. And there have been suggestions the 49ers might be willing to listen.   more »
