Storm in Seattle is the real deal

Posted Dec. 20 at 08:05 AM

Weather is definitely going to affect the game between the Seahawks and Jets.

About a half foot of snow is expected, but it's more than just that. When warmer air hits the cold air in the area (it's about 20 degrees right now) tomorrow in the morning, there will be high winds -- I've seen numbers of 50-70 mph.

The Seahawks and Jets rank last and next-to-last in passing yards allowed, but no way will either team be able to pass the ball effectively in these conditions. I think there's even an outside chance this game will be postponed a day -- I'm sure it's something that's been at least discussed.

Brett Favre may have a history of playing in poor weather in Green Bay, but with the winds, I wouldn't want to start him in this game. Thomas Jones, I'm confident, will be New York's key guy.

An article in The Seattle Times suggests that the impact of this storm will be worst than the 2006 December storm that left thousands without power for days.

I was just at the Blockbuster down the street, picking up a couple of movies for the kids. The parking lot there wasn't sanded and was on a slight hill. I saw four car accidents in about 10 minutes. I felt damn lucky to get out of there.

Avoid Seahawks and Jets -- expect Thomas Jones.

still like the Jets D?

Yeah, I'm curious about the D as well. I think this might actually hurt them, as there won't be as many passing attempts, while both teams try to protect the ball. I can play the Eagles D against Washington, which is what I'm now leaning towards, but I just wanted to hear what Ian Allen had to say...

Sorry, that was supposed to be Ian Allan, not Allen.

I think the weather hurts the Jets' defense. A big chunk of their rating comes from their kick-return unit. Leon Washington is about the most dangerous kickoff returner in the league right now. But with the snow and weather, I think he'll handle fewer kickoffs in the game -- the scoring will be lower. It also could adversely affect his quickness and cutting ability. And as you point out, the Seahawks should pass less often -- meaning fewer sacks and potential interceptions. I think I'd go Eagles over Jets, but it's really kind of crapshoot, I think, with those two.

With all this weather I don't know what to do?? I have Thomas Jones, Matt Forte, and Marshawn Lynch...who to start??

Sunday at 10:20 am in Seattle. A half foot of snow has fallen, but no sign yet of the monster winds that are supposed to arrive when warm arm meets the existing cold. I don't know if this is good or bad. It could mean that those winds will arrive during the game. Weather wouldn't be too bad if they were playing right now. The snow would be cleared off the field, and it's not snowing right now. With the amount of snow on the road and with the Seahawks being 3-11, I'll guess the attendence for this game will be about 15,000. Would be a sellout in normal circumstances.
