Factoid
Chris Cooley's season got off to a rough start (a single 10-yard reception in week 1), and it might not get much better in week 2. Cooley is one of the league’s best tight ends, and he’s had some of his best career performances against NFC East opponents. Except for the team he faces next Monday night, Philadelphia.
In six career starts against the Eagles, Cooley has had some good yardage games, but has never scored. History appears to be against things changing on Monday; a year ago, only four teams allowed fewer touchdowns to tight ends than Philadelphia (3). Contrast that to Cooley’s games against the Giants and Cowboys. To this point in his career, 7 of his 19 touchdowns have come against those teams.
Cooley’s career numbers against the Eagles, and Washington’s other two divisional opponents, are presented below.
Cooley vs. Philadelphia (2 games each season)
Year Rec Yds TDs
2006 7 85 0
2005 9 93 0
2004 7 97 0
Tot. 23 275 0
Cooley vs. N.Y. Giants and Dallas (4 games each season)
Year Rec Yds TDs
2006 13 179 1
2005 16 151 4
2004 11 81 2
Tot. 40 411 7
