Fantasy News
Dan Bakley has finished 1st and 2nd in the Fantasy Football Index Experts Poll the last two years, and he’s back in the running again after winning the Wide Receivers portion of the competition.
Bakley (of THE FANTASY POINT) finished next-to-last in Tight Ends and only 12th in Defenses, but he stormed back in the Wide Receivers category, outscoring all of the other experts by at least 559 points.
Lenny Pappano (DraftSharks.com) and Scott Endsley (Fantasy Draft Edge) finished 2nd and 3rd in this competition, but there was very little between the top five runnersup. All scored between 30,815 and 30,893 points.
The poll, started in 1991, is different from other experts competition in that every expert has to take a stand on every significant player - every pick is scored. If an expert ranks a player No. 1 at a position, that player's actual fantasy production is multiplied by 20. If an expert ranks a player No. 2, the player's production is multiplied by 19. If the expert ranks a player No. 3, the multiplier number is 18, and so on.
At wide receiver, Bakey helped himself by ranking Calvin Johnson (15th) higher than any other expert. He was also one of only two experts to rank Andre Johnson 2nd, and he dropped Terrell Owens (7th) lower than anyone.
Endsley, meanwhile, remains the overall leader after four rounds of scoring, followed by Michael Nazarek (Fantasy Football Mastermind), Scott Pianowski (Yahoo!) and Bakley. The only categories left to score are running backs and quarterbacks (although those also tend to be the two most important sections).
Fantasy Football Index isn't an official part of this poll. We administrate and score the deal, so we've always taken a step back on this thing. We do, however, check and see how our magazine picks stack up. After a slow start in the other positions, the magazine picks came in at No. 2 at this position – we also had Calvin Johnson at 15th on our board.
The top 11 finishers in this poll earn spots in the magazine's 2009 Experts League, which will be published in the upcoming edition of the magazine. Whichever expert finishes first in the overall poll will get his choice of draft position; the 2nd-place finisher will get second choice of draft spots, and so on. The 12th and final draft spot will go to a Fantasy Football Index reader.
