Fanex draft a week away

Posted May. 08 at 07:26 AM

I’m a week away, believe it or not, from selecting my first fantasy team for the 2009 season.

This is the Fanex Analysis Draft, hosted by www.fanexfootball.com.

This is a no-moves league. Each team drafts about 20-21 players, and those are your guys – no trades or waiver moves. No starting lineups either – it’s automatically tabulated on a best-ball basis.

Starting lineups include QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, TE, K and DEF. One “flex” player, who can be a RB-WR-TE. Scoring includes 1 point per reception but otherwise is pretty standard – 6 points for touchdowns, 4 for TD passes, 1 for every 10 run/rec yards and 1 for every 20 passing yards.

I prefer the auction format, but this is a draft. I’m in the 11th spot out of 12 (so, 2nd pick in the even-numbered rounds).

I’ve won this league both years I’ve competed, so I’m going for the three-peat.

If anybody has any suggestions for draft picks, send them along. I actually haven’t put together any overall draft boards yet, so I’m not sure which way I’ll go with those first two picks.

I was looking at an average draft position chart somewhere, which suggested there are 8-9 running backs head and shoulders above the rest of the backs. If that holds true (and maybe one of those guys falls, or maybe you don't like one of them), you might find yourself employing the strategy of a couple of years ago (if I remember correctly): taking wideouts with those first two picks, then patching together a running game later.

Take the man on the cover of the magazine. Stud, Reliable & the Cards face a relatively easy schedule against the pass this year (oh, and obviously, they play in the NFC west). Select that RB in round 2.

Andy's method works and in Minnesota we call it "Doing the opposite." If you check the top ten rated RB's for each year, over the last few years you will find that it is littered with injuries and busts. Wr's get injured also, but not on the level of the RB's. The last few years have had some great numbers from WR's, and after all, a td is a td.
