For the better part of a day, I was hoping that Eli Manning would make it to draft spot 9.02, allowing me to pair him with Ben Roethlisberger. I don’t have a butt-kicker quarterback, but at least this would give me a one-two punch of capable guys.
The more I thought about it, however, the only reason I could think of to justify selecting Manning before David Garrard, however, was that his last name is Manning.
Garrard is one of the most mobile quarterbacks in the league. He’ll probably score 2-3 TDs on his own, and he’ll run for about 300 yards. In this scoring system, that’s like him getting a head start of 600 passing yards and 3-4 TD passes against Manning.
Garrard had a lousy year last season, and he still significantly outperformed Manning in this scoring system. Now, Garrard apppears to be in much better shape and has an improved offensive line, while Manning will have to work without Plaxico Burress. The Giants have a conservative scheme and run the ball really well, so I imagine Manning will throw for his typical 210 yards and 21-24 TDs. He’s not all of a sudden going to become another Peyton Manning; he’s a different quarterback in a different scheme.
I’ll also admit I have a soft spot for Garrard. He helped me win both the Fanex competitions last year – the May/June “Fanex Analysis Draft” (with no moves or starting lineups), and the more traditional 24-team Fanex League proper, which features trades, lineups and head-to-head play.

Overview of rules: Each team drafts 20 players. Starts QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, TE, K, D and one flex player (RB-WR-TE). 6 points for TDs, 4 for TD passes, 1 for every 20 passing yards, 1 for every 10 run/rec yards, 1 for every reception. No free agent pickups – what you draft is what you get. No starting lineups – lineups tabulated via “best ball” methods. No head-to-head games; highest total points after 17 weeks is the winner.

Well you know you're getting 24 td's from Eli. You can win with that when you're strong everywhere else. I was going to suggest taking a flyer on Carson Palmer, but I see he went right before you got Garrard. I think you have a solid strategy with good logic. I've won plenty using the same one. You going to spend a late pick on a 3rd QB?

Eli the last three years: 24, 23, 21 TDs. And that was with Plaxico. Now the top three receivers are a rookie, a third-down slot receiver and a guy who was cut by the Broncos. That team runs the ball really well. I think 23-24 TDs is the top end for Eli.
