Ian Allan
I believe Anthony Gonzalez will be one of this year’s breakout players.
I’ve already selected him on both of the early-bird teams I’ve put together for experts league competitions. (I selected him in the fourth round of the Fanex draft, and I purchased him in a mock auction that will be discussed in the magazine).
Year in and year out, the Colts rank among the leaders in passing production, and now Gonzalez is going to be plugged into a full-time role in that offense. He’s been around for a couple of years, so he’s had a chance to learn their system – he’s ready to roll.
Below see the average passing production for each team over the last three years. I’ve got them in order of fantasy points, using the scoring system of 1 point for every 10 yards and 6 points for TDs.
TEAM PASSING PRODUCTION, 2006-2008
The passing yards figures are per-game. For touchdowns, it’s the average season total. And the fantasy points (“Pts”) is a per-game number based on 1 point for every 10 passing yards and 6 points for TDs.

I agree that Gonzalez is primed for a breakout season. Here is a look at the first two seasons for Reggie Wayne and Anthony Gonzalez: 1st year: Wayne, 2001: 13 games, 9 starts, 27 catches, 345 yards, 0 TDs Gonzalez 2007: 13 games, 9 starts, 37 catches 576 yards, 3 TDs 2nd year: Wayne, 2002: 16 games, 7 starts, 49-716-4 Gonzalez, 2008: 16 games, 2 starts, 57-664-4 Pretty similar, right? It gets better. Wayne was selected 30th overall; Gonzalez went 32nd overall. Wayne is 6'0, 198 lbs; Gonzalez is 6'0, 193 lbs. At the combine, Wayne ran a 4.45 40-yard dash; Gonzalez ran 4.44. Now that Harrison is gone, Gonzalez could easily become a perennial 80-1200-8 producer.
