Fantasy News
The Fanex draft is over. Finally.
240 players selected.
Two that I was really surprised weren’t picked: Johnnie Lee Higgins and Devin Thomas. I think Higgins will be Oakland’s best wide receiver. He doesn’t get credit for kick returns in this system (which is really dumb, in my opinion), but he’s still a top-45 receiver on my board. Thomas is one of those big, fast, Andre Johnson-type guys. Did nothing as a rookie, but they might get him going.
Rosters are below. We’re trying to finish up a magazine, but when I get a few minutes, I’ll examine the numbers and tell you which teams I feel will do the best.
Overview of rules: Each team drafts 20 players. Starts QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, TE, K, D and one flex player (RB-WR-TE). 6 points for TDs, 4 for TD passes, 1 for every 20 passing yards, 1 for every 10 run/rec yards, 1 for every reception. No free agent pickups – what you draft is what you get. No starting lineups – lineups tabulated via “best ball” methods. No head-to-head games; highest total points after 17 weeks is the winner.

A year ago, would you have imagined ever having a team with Reggie Bush, Cedric Benson and LenDale White on it?
Posted by John Klindworth | Jun. 04 at 07:26 PM
Ian, I think that you, Matt, and Chris Rito have the best chances. I am not really amped about your RBs, though I think those guys will achieve a pretty good bit of their potential upside. I just wouldn't want to rely on it so heavily. John's team looks great until you get to the WRs. Spotty bunch there, IMHO. Good job, wish I was there...

I think you'll like my running backs a lot more after Ray Rice runs for about 130 yards and 2 TDs against Kansas City on opening day. I will be fine at that position. Trust me.

Yeah, the 'best ball' format grants a luxury that I do not think that all of the league members recognize let alone exploit the way that you seem to have done here. A question though: It appears (without looking at the actual pick by pick) that you intentionally passed up Seattle's D/ST. What are your opinions on that unit? Personally, I have a hard time thinking that they will be anything but an absolute monster vs. opposing offenses, and their ST will be above average at worst. Thanks...

I've got Seattle as a middle-of-the-pack team in terms of the D/ST numbers. Probably about average on kick returns. They've got the nice trio of linebackers -- Tatupu, Curry and Leroy Hill. And they have a nice three-cornerback mix with Trufant, Jennings and now re-adding Ken Lucas. But will the pass rush be good enough? It slipped from 45 to 35 sacks last year. They need to keep Kerney healthy; he had 5 sacks in seven games last year. And do they have enough bulk up front to stop the run? They were below-average in run defense last year.
