Around the NFL
In the magazine we were a little skeptical of 49ers rookie Michael Crabtree, both as a long-term prospect and especially for the 2009 season. That skepticism, at least for this season, is shared by beat writer Matt Maiocco.
In his blog in the Press Democrat, Maiocco writes that Crabtree will start training camp "far behind the other receivers on the team" in readiness and route-running.
None of this is surprising, given that Crabtree is coming off a foot injury which limited him all offseason, as well as the fact that he played in a spread offense in college at Texas Tech. But it speaks to the fact that the people making Crabtree the top wideout drafted in redraft leagues, usually somewhere around the 8th to 10th round, appear to be making a mistake.
Crabtree may very well have the best career of this year's rookie wideout class, but an immediate impact? Unlikely.
