We're into the middle rounds of the Fantasy Index TD-Only draft, which I think is where you reach a point where everyone has their eye on different players. That was especially clear when one owner selected kicker Stephen Gostkowski in the sixth round.
I am not, however, going to rip the pick. Given the format, selecting the consensus top kicker early on makes some degree of sense. Since scoring plays are all that matter, history in this league shows us that kickers are often among the leading scorers. There will be far more weeks where the top running backs get shut out than Gostkowski will.
I like some other bold picks made recently. I'm rather risk-averse when it comes to injuries, but Jonathan Stewart with the last pick of the sixth round looks pretty good to me. If healthy, he'll be a steal at that point. Eddie Royal with the first pick of the seventh also looks good; Denver might have the league's worst defense, again, and Royal might end up being their top wideout in what could be a fairly high-scoring season for the Broncos.
As for picks I wasn't crazy about, I just don't like Devin Hester at 5.09. Not in this format, not in any format. I know he could be Jay Cutler's No. 1, but it's uncertain enough to me that I wouldn't gamble on it.
