Defensive Notes
It was a painful Sunday for some big-name defensive players, with Jets' nose tackle Kris Jenkins and Falcons cornerback Brian Williams among those sustaining season-ending injuries. Seattle linebacker Lofa Tatupu was originally thought to be done for the year; now the team hopes he'll be able to return this year.
On Tuesday it came out that an even bigger IDP star was lost for the season: Browns' linebacker D'Qwell Jackson.
Jackson led the Browns in tackles this year; he led the league in tackles a year ago. We had him as a top-5 option, and the news didn't come out in time for yesterday's Cheat Sheet update, so he still appears very high in those rankings. But it's official; he's done for the year with a shoulder injury.
Needless to say, Jackson is a major loss for a Browns defense that already had plenty of problems. They'll be even worse this week.
Witherspoon trade: The Eagles have been trying to resolve their middle linebacker situation since losing Stewart Bradley to a preseason injury. Joe Mays, Omar Gaither, and the recently signed Jeremiah Trotter have all played there this year. Acquiring Will Witherspoon from the Rams yesterday might have finally fixed their problems. Witherspoon has been a productive starter and should help this defense, plus his own IDP value increases from starting on the outside in St. Louis to the middle in Philadelphia.
