A grab bag of NFL developments

Posted Dec. 25 at 02:03 AM

A few player notes appear below. A full update will be sent out to subscribers tomorrow morning, which will include revised player projections.

Good luck to all of those participating in fantasy playoff games this weekend.

Neil Rackers definitely won’t play for Arizona. Mike Nugent should be a very good fill-in against St. Louis.

Devin Thomas (ankle) didn’t practice on Wednesday or Thursday. Looks like he’ll sit out. This slightly increases the value of Santana Moss. Malcolm Kelly should take Thomas’ starting spot.

For the Saints, Reggie Bush (hamstring) was limited in practice on Wednesday and Thursday. We’re pretty sure he’ll sit out, and that’s good news for Pierre Thomas and Mike Bell. As a reader pointed on the mailbag yesterday, the projections for Thomas and Bell were flawed in the original product. Those have been corrected and uploaded to the site (and will be corrected on the version that is re-sent tomorrow). Right now, Thomas is sitting as the No. 9 running back in the yards and PPR formats; he’s at 13th in the TD-only.

Jeremy Shockey (turf toe) was limited in practice on Wednesday and Thursday. He may play or play in a limited role, so we’re not interested in gambling on David Thomas at this point.

DeAngelo Williams (ankle) didn’t practice on Wednesday or Thursday. Looks like it will be Jonathan Stewart starting for Carolina on Sunday.

Antonio Bryant (groin) was limited in practice on both Wednesday and Thursday. At this point, he doesn’t look like a guy you want to rely on.

Adam Vinatieri practiced fully on Wednesday and Thursday. Looks like he, not Matt Stover, is most likely to kick this week against the Jets. With the Colts perhaps resting players, however, we don’t think either is a good fantasy option.

Pierre Garcon (hand) didn’t practice on Wednesday or Thursday. At this point, he can’t be counted on to play.

Nate Burleson (ankle) definitely won’t play for Seattle.

Michael Turner didn’t practice on Wednesday or Thursday. We’re comfortable saying he won’t play.

Justin Fargas (knee) didn’t practice on Wednesday or Thursday. It should be Michael Bush and Darren McFadden being used as a one-two punch against Cleveland. The Browns have a weak run defense, so one of these backs (most likely Bush) could be pretty good.

Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Morningweg says he thinks that Jeremy Maclin (foot) will play on Sunday. But Maclin isn’t fully healthy and would be unlikely to be used in a full-time role. This decreases the value of guys like Jason Avant and Reggie Brown.
