Factoid
A day after their final game, the Giants fired defensive coordinator Bill Sheridan. No big surprise. He flopped as the replacement for Steve Spagnuolo.
With an easy schedule, the Giants opened the season with a 5-0 record. But from that point on, their defense allowed 43 touchdowns – almost 4 per game. The next-worst defense in the league allowed 35 touchdowns in its final 11 games (8 fewer than the Giants).
This wasn’t a group without talent. Sure, the Giants had some injuries, but they also had one of the most talented front sevens in the league. The Sporting News, for example, featured that entire group of players on its 2009 football preview, identifying the Giants as the favorite to win this year’s Super Bowl.
