Sanchez: the less the better

Posted Jan. 13 at 07:40 AM

When Mark Sanchez attempted fewer than 20 passes this year, the Jets went 6-0. He completed 62.2 percent of his passes and averaged 125 yards in those games, with 3 TDs and 1 interception. (Not 3 TDs per game -- that was his total for the six games).

In the last seven games that Sanchez has attempted 20 or more passes, the Jets are 0-7. He completed only 49.4 percent of his passes and averaged 181 yards in those games, with almost three times as many interceptions (17) as touchdowns (6).

Needless to say, New York's running game will be critical in the game on Sunday at San Diego. If the Chargers can slow down Thomas Jones and Shonn Greene, that will force Sanchez to throw more passes -- greatly increasing the chances of the Chargers winning.
