Factoid
In the playoffs this weekend, it's been nothing but first-rounders (at quarterback) on the AFC side. But anything but first-rounders in the NFC, where the only first-round quarterback on any of those teams was Matt Leinart, who only got on the field when Kurt Warner was hurt.
AFC teams
Peyton Manning (first round)
Joe Flacco (first round)
Philip Rivers (first round)
Mark Sanchez (first round)
NFC teams
Brett Favre (second round)
Tony Romo (undrafted)
Kurt Warner (undrafted)
Drew Brees (second round)
Of the four AFC quarterbacks, all but Manning were involved in trades. Rivers was originally chosen by the Giants. The Jets moved up to No. 5, trading with Cleveland, to select Sanchez. And the Ravens traded with Houston, moving up to 18 to select Flacco.
Of the 12 quarterbacks to make the playoffs, five were selected with top 5 picks -- Manning (1), Carson Palmer (1), Donovan McNabb (2), Rivers (4) and Sanchez (5).
Two were selected with choices in the second half of the first round -- Flacco (18th) and Aaron Rodgers (24th).
And the remaining five were less coveted way back when -- Brees and Favre in the second, Tom Brady (6th), and Romo and Warner not drafted at all.
