2009's first-round wideouts in a class by themselves

Posted Jul. 19 at 08:59 PM

Last year's class of first-round wideouts was very impressive; five of the six put up at least 600 receiving yards. In the history of the draft prior to that, no more than four first-rounders put up that many yards in their rookie seasons. (That happened on three previous occasions.)

The odds of future success appear favorable for the 2009 rookies, as well. Of three previous groups of four, all but one of those 12 wideouts (journeyman Jessie Hester) had at least one 1000-yard receiving season in the league.

The groupings are presented below.

1st-round wideouts with 600-plus receiving yards as rookies (ordered by yards)

5   (2009: Percy Harvin, Hakeem Nicks, Jeremy Maclin, Kenny Britt, Michael Crabtree)
4   (2004: Michael Clayton, Lee Evans, Roy Williams, Larry Fitzgerald)
4   (1996: Terry Glenn, Eddie Kennison, Keyshawn Johnson, Marvin Harrison)
4   (1985: Eddie Brown, Jerry Rice, Jessie Hester, Al Toon)
