Around the NFL
The New Orleans Saints had the highest scoring offense in the league this season, and just scored 45 points last week. Not a situation, then, when a visiting opponent wants to be shorthanded on either offense or defense, let alone both. But that's how things are looking for the Vikings right now.
Defensive linemen Ray Edwards and Kevin Williams are both banged-up with knee injuries; both are critical to the team's defensive front. Edwards had the huge 3-sack game against Dallas, but Williams is even more critical, particularly to the team's run defense.
Wideout Percy Harvin, meanwhile, missed practice yesterday with a migraine. Recall that Harvin missed an entire week of practice, and the team's week 14 game, with migraines. His absence would be costly, particularly given that Bernard Berrian is also banged-up. The Vikings would need to lean on Greg Lewis as their No. 3 receiver should Harvin be sidelined.
The Vikings have been one of the league's healthiest teams this season; one of the few not to place a key offensive player on injured reserve all season. Health is one of the reasons they're where they are, but it could also contribute to their season ending on Sunday.
