Poor year for rookie runners

Posted Feb. 12 at 05:01 AM

A couple of weeks back we pointed out what a great year it was for rookie receivers. Conversely, it was a lousy year for rookie running backs.

The leading rookie runner, Denver's Knowshon Moreno, put up just 947 yards -- not bad, but consider that it's the first year since 1992 that there hasn't been at least one 1,000-yard rookie running back. In 10 of the previous 16 years since that season, in fact, there have been at least two such rushers.

There were also only two rookie runners (Beanie Wells was the other) who managed even 650 rushing yards last season. In 11 of the previous 16 seasons, at least three runners hit that total.
