Marshawn Lynch on the block?

Posted Feb. 15 at 03:58 AM

Marshawn Lynch was outplayed by Fred Jackson last season. A writer who covers the team thinks Lynch's poor showing, coupled with his off-field baggage and Jackson's solid play, will lead to Lynch being shipped out of town this offseason.

"The Buffalo Bills probably will try to trade running back Marshawn Lynch," writes Rochester Democrat and Chronicle columnist Bob Matthews. "He has the talent to be a heavy-duty NFL running back, but his problems with the law and attitude are heavy baggage."

Matthews goes on to speculate about possible fits, including San Diego. In any case, Lynch has the talent to be a feature back, and he's also still very young; he turns 24 in April. But Matthews believes the team has had enough of him, and that Lynch returned from his three-game suspension to start the season in poor shape.

A trade would certainly help Lynch's value, and would also benefit Fred Jackson (who finished the season as the starter). Jackson turns 29 next week, but he doesn't have much mileage after being a backup for most of his career to this point.

Matthews' column can be seen right here.
