Factoid
The Browns released Jamal Lewis yesterday, which could be the end of his career; during the season he said he planned to retire. Even if Lewis wants to come back, he may not get that opportunity. If that was curtains for the former 2000-yard rusher, his performance around the goal line the last few years was probably the clearest indicator of his decline.
Lewis carried the ball eight times from inside the 5-yard line last season, totaling 9 yards and scoring 1 TD. It's been a steady drop for him in that area over the past few seasons. Lewis' performance on carries inside the opposing 5-yard line over the last four years is presented below.
Year Att Yds TDs
2009 8 9 1
2008 17 3 4
2007 22 21 7
2006 16 24 7
