Josh Cribbs is probably Cleveland's most talented player, and the main reason to take an interest in the Browns defense and special teams in fantasy drafts, particularly those leagues that give extra weight to return touchdowns. It looks like new decision-maker Mike Holmgren plans to make him happy this offseason.
Cribbs has been looking for a new contract since last offseason, and according to a report in the Cleveland Plain Dealer, he could have one by the end of next week. The deal would essentially be a reworking of the final three years on his deal, according to the report.
Cribbs hasn't made much of an impact as a receiver, but would probably see an expanded role on running plays and as a Wildcat quarterback. He'd also, of, course, remain the team's primary returner on both kicks and punts.
Signing Cribbs would be the latest crowd-pleasing move by Holmgren, after the team cut declining veteran Jamal Lewis last week. Holmgren has also indicated the team's quarterback situation will be resolved entering training camp, suggesting that either a clear starter will be brought in, or that either Brady Quinn or Derek Anderson won't be with the team in July.
