It looks like the Jets won't re-sign Jay Feely. Or at least that they're prepared to live without him if he commands too much money.
New York has signed former Dallas kicker Nick Folk, who was reliable in previous years but was released after struggling last season. Folk has a weak leg -- to the point where he can't really be used on kickoffs.
With Sebastian Janikowski moving up to $4 million per year last week and many team struggling at the kicker position, Feely might get a surprisingly large contract offer from some team.
The Jets now have a contingency plan in place if it goes down that way.
Feely isn't closing the door on New York. "We have had negotiations and discussions, and they were very pleasant, very positive," he said in an article on ESPN.com.They're very pleased with how I kicked over the past couple years and the leadership I showed. ... It's just a matter of coming to an agreement on a contract."
