Saints say Bush will remain in hand

Posted Feb. 27 at 02:03 AM

Reggie Bush's contract calls for an $8 million base salary next season, so there's been some speculation that the team would release him this offseason. Nope, says head coach Sean Payton.

""He'll be with us," Payton told the New Orleans Times-Picayune yesterday. "He's not going anywhere. (General Manager Mickey Loomis) and I talked the other day about it. We value what this player brings. ... He's full speed ahead, he finished strong, and he'll be with us."

In 2011, Bush's base salary jumps to $12 million, so it's somewhat less likely he'll be back for that season. But look for a committee of Bush and Pierre Thomas, and perhaps some other back, to continue at least through next year.
