Brent Celek / goal-line receiving

Posted Mar. 04 at 03:50 AM

Brent Celek put up big numbers last year for the Eagles. He caught 76 passes for 971 yards and 8 TDs. In the last 20 years, only 17 tight ends have finished with more receiving yards in a season (and a whole bunch of those seasons were compiled by just a few guys – Shannon Sharpe, Antonio Gates, Tony Gonzalez).

Around the end zone, however, Celek was surprisingly ineffective. Seven times when the Eagles were inside the 5 yard line, they tried to get the ball to their young tight end, but only one of those passes resulted in a completion. Among all players with at least 5 attempts in that area, that was the worst success rate in the league.

INEFFECTIVE RECEIVERS AROUND THE GOAL-LINE
Players with 5-plus pass attempts inside the 5-yard line who caught no more than 1 pass in that area. (Each player’s catch went for a touchdown).
