Factoid
The Lions made the first big splash of free agency, signing wideout Nate Burleson to a 5-year, $25 million contract with $11 million guaranteed. It's a lot of coin for a player who's been no better than an average wide receiver for most of his career, but that doesn't make it a bad signing. The Lions, after all, had a pretty significant need at the position.
After Calvin Johnson, the team -- with Bryant Johnson and Dennis Northcutt in the No. 2 and 3 roles -- had an absolute void at wide receiver last season, as the below numbers show. Burleson isn't a special talent, but he definitely helps address that problem.
The Detroit News reports the signing right here.
