Factoid
The Ravens re-signed Derrick Mason yesterday; he figures to be the team's No. 2 wideout across from last week's acquisition Anquan Boldin. Don't blame Mason, though, if he has a differing opinion on who exactly is the team's top wide receiver.
Since Boldin entered the league in 2003, few would dispute that he's the more dangerous wideout. But in those seven seasons, in large part because Mason's missed just one game compared to 17 for Boldin, their numbers are strikingly similar. Over that span the two are separated by just 2 receptions, 10 yards, and 1 TD per season.
These are just numbers, which don't take into account that Boldin has had far better receivers competing for production with him over that span than Mason. He's also seven years younger. Regardless, although Boldin's far better on a per-game basis, his tendency to miss time due to injury suggests Mason might put up similar season-long numbers yet again.
