Fantasy News
If it seems like Washington is loading up on big names this offseason, that appears to be the case. Big fantasy names, too, at least if you turn the calendar back a few years.
As this article in the Wall Street Journal points out, Washington's roster now features 5 of the top-50 picks in the average fantasy draft back in 2006, including Larry Johnson, Clinton Portis, Donovan McNabb, Willie Parker and Santana Moss. According to the story, no other NFL team features more than 2 such players.
As an aside, the Fantasy Index cover subject that year, Shaun Alexander, last played for Washington (in 2008). Index had Johnson (No. 1), Portis (No. 5), Parker (No. 20), McNabb (No. 5), and Chris Cooley (No. 13) as top-20 players at their position. Moss was 21st among wideouts.
As the Journal notes, there's no reason for Washington to stop there. The team could easily add such players as Kevin Jones and Edgerrin James, should they wish to have another aging running back on their roster. It would be trickier to add one of 2006's top wideouts, however, with Marvin Harrison retired and Plaxico Burress in jail -- although that latter option could reasonably be in the franchise's future.
