Rams on a record run of futility

Posted Apr. 13 at 09:16 AM

They’ve been a little overshadowed (or is it “undershadowed”?) by the Lions, hwo had an 0-16 season, but the Rams actually have been a worse team over the last three years. Despite playing in the NFC West – the worst division in football – St. Louis has gone only 6-42 in the last three years.

That mark, which translates out to a .125 winning percentage, is the worst by a team in a three-year span since the move to the 16-game schedule in 1978. So the Rams are definitely deserving of the No. 1 pick in Thursday’s draft.

WORST THREE-YEAR RECORDS, 1978-2009

UPDATING: I double-checked. The winning percentage of .125 is the worst in the NFL during a three-year period. Worse than the Houston Oiler teams that had back-to-back seasons of 1-13 in the early '70s. Worse than the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who went 2-26 in their first two seasons but then went 5-11. And worse than anything Detroit has been able to put together.
