Factoid
Tony Scheffler is headed to the Lions. Part of a three-team deal involving Philadelphia, Denver and Detroit, involving draft picks and linebacker Ernie Sims (who goes to the Eagles).
Scheffler was Brandon Marshall Lite. He didn’t get along with Josh McDaniels. Both of those players were suspended for the final game of last season.
The Lions drafted Brandon Pettigrew last year, but he tore knee ligaments in the Thanksgiving Day game against the Packers. Hence the need for them to add a tight end with some receiving ability.
Scheffler isn’t much of a blocker, but he does have some speed. He’s averaged 14.9 yards per catch over the last two years. According to our numbers, that’s the most of any tight end with at least 40 catches in that span.
