Tight ends going over 1,000 yards

Posted Apr. 19 at 07:08 AM

Tight ends are on the rise. They’re more athletic than they’ve been in the past, and teams are using them more.

By my count (and I’m hoping I’m not missing any) there have been only 26 tight ends who have ever gone over 1,000 receiving yards. Yet, in two of the last three years, there have been three of those guys (last year, it was Antonio Gates, Dallas Clark and Jason Witten).

Fantasy wise, it translates into the value of these guys actually decreasing. They’re good, but there are a lot of them out there, and fantasy teams start only one (at least in most fantasy leagues).

Jermichael Finley will be on this list next year. In 13 games, he had 676 yards. Over 16 games, it comes to 831 yards. I don't see GB throwing less next year. Finley is about the most atheletic te in the game. Nice sleeper.

It's a possibility. In his final eight games last year (including the playoffs), Finley had 575 receiving yards. Lots of receiving options, however, in Green Bay.
