Fantasy Index Scheduletron -- strength-of-schedule analysis
The hardest schedules this year belong to three teams with Texas ties. Houston, Dallas and Tennessee (formerly the Houston Oilers) project to have the hardest schedules.
This is because those teams belong to what have been the league’s best two divisions since the move to 32 teams. Year in and year out, the AFC South and the NFC East have been tough, and those two divisions go head-to-head this year.
Based on recent history (the last three years), NFL teams have tended to get weaker as you travel north and west. The two North divisions both come in below-average, and the two West divisions have been weakest of all.
STRENGTH OF NFL DIVISIONS, 2007-2009
Based on wins and losses in games played outside the division (each division went 24-24 when playing against itself; those games are left out).
W L T Pct

76 43 1 .638 NFC East
64 56 0 .533 NFC South
62 58 0 .517 AFC East
60 59 1 .504 AFC North
56 64 0 .467 NFC North
43 77 0 .358 AFC West
36 84 0 .300 NFC West

I have two different sources which rate strength of schedule according to the number of fantasy points their opponents gave up to each of the skilled positions. Dallas has the third and fourth easiest schedule for qb and the easiest schedule for wrs according to both sources. The Dallas run game is ranked 25th and 26th. Houston and Tennessee for qb, rb, and wr are all ranked between 12 and 18-nothing too tough there. It seems that while their schedules may be tough, their fantasy production will be good.
