Delhomme & Moore -- turnovers

Posted May. 04 at 07:56 AM

At the quarterback position, there’s something to be said for not beating yourself. It’s no good to convert some big throws if you undo those plays with big mistakes – fumbles and forced throws.

I think that’s why Matt Moore was such a big upgrade over Jake Delhomme for Carolina last year. It’s not so much that Moore was cutting up secondaries – he wasn’t – but he at least avoided handing over the ball to defenses.

Moore, in fact, did the best job of avoiding turnovers of any quarterback in the league that started at least five games. He had 2 interceptions and no fumbles lost in those five games. Jake Delhomme, meanwhile, was the worst of the veteran quarterbacks in this category. He started 11 games and had 18 interceptions and 3 lost fumbles.
