Rushing inside 5-yard line

Posted Jul. 24 at 05:01 PM

For a running back, a big part of scoring touchdowns is getting opportunities. Is your team good enough to move the ball down the field? And do you get the ball when it’s near the goal line.

Rushing touchdowns are far more likely to be scored inside the 5-yard line. So the running backs who get lots of carries in that area tend to finish with the most touchdowns. It’s not easy being a Chris Johnson or Adrian Peterson, who can regularly score from 10, 20, 30 yards or more.

The below chart shows all running backs who carried the ball at least 5 times inside the 5-yard (as well as how many touchdowns they scored in that area).
