Goal-line rushing / Steigmann special

Posted May. 31 at 03:31 PM

Moishe Steigmann mentioned earlier in the day that he’d like to see the rushing numbers for just the 1-yard line. He wanted to see which backs got the most rushing attempts from the 1, and which ones where the best at cashing in on those chances.

That’s one that we track. Every week during the regular season, Andy Richardson carefully logs in all plays inside the 10 into a searchable/sortable database, allowing us to track various offensive trends.

Below are the individual numbers for rushing from the 1.

The top four backs are the same for "inside the 5" and "from the 1" - should we glean anything from the similarities or differences between the two lists?

And how much does it vary from year to year?

Thank you very much, Ian. And, wow, a shout-out in the headline. Now I'm someone... :)
