Rams retain safety Atogwe

Posted Jun. 23 at 04:01 AM

The day after our annual magazine went to press, Rams safety O.J. Atogwe become an unrestricted free agent. Atogwe is a top IDP at his position and a quality defender, so his signing with another team, say Miami, would have affected the rankings.

But that didn't happen. Atogwe has returned to St. Louis, agreeing to a five-year deal.

Atogwe missed four games at the end of last season due to a shoulder injury, and that may have played a factor in other teams shying away. Still, fantasy owners who use individual defensive players won't find a lot of better safety options -- assuming he's fully healthy in the preseason.

Over the last four years, he's averaged 77 tackles, intercepted 18 passes, and forced 14 fumbles -- very good numbers for a safety, and a nice option in IDP leagues.
