Around the NFL
We don't like to overrate projections for contract-year players. For one thing, NFL players are essentially in contract years all the time -- one bad season from being cut is the rule for most.
What we do like, though, is players who (contract year or not) say they're determined to go out and have a big year. Like Ray Rice, whose feelings can be seen in an article at Baltimore's team website.
“I still feel like I’m a guy that is underrated,” said Rice on ESPN. "My plan is to go out there and prove it all over again, that this wasn’t just a one-year thing.”
We're anticipating a slight drop in Rice's numbers; he had over 2,000 total yards last year, so some step back is to be expected, plus the team will likely be sending more passes to its wide receivers with Anquan Boldin entering the starting lineup.
But clearly Rice himself isn't lacking in desire and motivation to prove that last year's season was no fluke.
