Around the NFL
Malcom Floyd will be the Chargers' No. 1 wideout for at least the first three games of the season; more if Vincent Jackson carries through with what seems to be an inevitable lengthy holdout. So far so good for Floyd.
According to an article at the team web site, Floyd has been lights out -- sorry, Shawne Merriman -- so far. To hear Philip Rivers and Norv Turner talk, Floyd will surprise a lot of people this year.
There's reason to have some reservations about Floyd, who somehow started 10 games a year ago while only scoring 1 TD. But Jackson caught 9, and his absence for however long it is suggests at least some of that production will have to come from somewhere.
If nothing else, maybe Floyd turning heads in the preseason will factor into Jackson perhaps coming around to the idea of reporting to the team himself.
