Factoid
You hear a lot about average yards per carry for running backs, and about yards per catch for receivers. If a wide receiver averages 16.0 yards per carry, that’s a sign that he can get downfield. And if a running back averages 5.0 yards per carry, that’s an indication that he’s kicking butt.
But you seldom hear about yards per attempt for quarterbacks. They tend to be judged by completion percentage, rating, yards and touchdowns.
But yards per pass attempt is meaningful. The best ones definitely finish with higher numbers – Philip Rivers, Ben Roethlisbergere, Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers.
Below are the numbers for the 2009 season.
