Wells shaken up, but OK

Posted Aug. 09 at 09:19 PM

Beanie Wells fell to the bottom of the first round two drafts ago, not because of talent but a checkered injury history. So fantasy owners interested in taking him this year had to hold their breath last night.

Wells was carted off the field after taking a hard hit to his ribs during practice. If his ribs had been fractured, it would be the kind of thing that could linger into the regular season. But no worries; they're saying Wells' ribs are just sore and he'll be OK.

It's a reminder, though, that Wells had a hard time staying healthy at Ohio State, and maybe plays a factor in why the team has yet to move him ahead of Tim Hightower in what figures to be a committee backfield regardless. If you draft Wells, it makes sense to save a later pick for Hightower, just in case.
