When last we left the experts draft I'm participating in, I elected to pass on wideouts at picks 3.12 and 4.01, in favor of running backs. When my next two picks rolled around, two of the wideouts I liked most -- Percy Harvin and Jeremy Maclin -- were still there.
To my mild surprise, however, C.J. Spiller was there, too. This despite the fact it's a PPR league, and recent reports have Spiller running with the first-team offense in practice. So I took Harvin, who I like a little bit more than Maclin, migraines and all, and Spiller.
With Drew Brees, I'm set at quarterback, and with Benson, Wells and Spiller I should be fine coming up with 2 good starting running backs each week, without throwing any mid-round picks at other youngsters or committee guys. With my next picks I'll grab a tight end -- perhaps Zach Miller -- and be fine there.
Where I imagine I'll have a problem -- where I often have a problem -- is that No. 3 wide receiver spot. Because the pickings are kind of slim at this point. Most likely, I'll draft three more guys, say Jabar Gaffney, some Colt receiver, and maybe a Tampa or Seattle wideout, and hope I come up with a quality weekly start.
