Around the NFL
Amid reports that injured reserve is a possibility for Sidney Rice, the Vikings have added two receivers in the last two days. I think the second one, Miami's Greg Camarillo, is the most intriguing one.
Multiple reports have Minnesota trading backup cornerback Benny Sapp to Miami for Camarillo; this after they signed Javon Walker yesterday. And although Walker has been to a Pro Bowl, Camarillo looks like the more likely one to be a significant addition this season.
Camarillo was averaging 5 receptions a game and on track for a 900-plus yard season back in 2008, when he tore an ACL and was lost for the season. Last year, when Miami didn't pass as well, he wasn't as much of a factor.
But in Minnesota, Camarillo has the potential to be one of the team's top three wideouts right away -- and in a much better passing offense. He's better than Walker at this stage of his career; he should definitely streak past veteran Greg Lewis.
As for Rice, Brad Childress has conceded that IR is an option the team will consider. Even if he misses only half the season, Rice won't have much of an impact for fantasy owners, whose seasons will be winding down by the time Rice is up to speed (if he plays at all).
Camarillo is hardly a Rice-like talent, but it's a nice move by Minnesota -- and a guy worth a late-round roll of the dice in fantasy drafts.
