Derek Anderson, not Matt Leinart, will be the Cardinals' No. 1 quarterback for Arizona's preseason game this week. And while he may not have officially supplanted Leinart as the team's starting quarterback, all signs point that way.
"I don't think we have performed the way we should have on offense," says Ken Whisenhunt in a story at the team's website. "We're looking at different players in different spots."
Whisenhunt apparently noted that this is just a flip from last week, when Leinart started and Anderson came in for some reps with the first-team offense. Still, it seems clear that if Anderson plays well this week -- and that's far from certain -- there's a good chance he'll be under center in week 1, as well.
Neither quarterback has played particularly well in the preseason, but perhaps Anderson's solid play in Cleveland back in 2007 -- up until he fell apart the next season, perhaps partly due to his receivers' inability to catch the throws he did put on target -- makes the Cardinals think he can resurrect his career in Arizona.
At the risk of comparing Anderson to Kurt Warner, people also thought Warner was done when he arrived in town a few years back. Warner had a couple of MVPs on his resume, of course, but regardless. Maybe Anderson can put his game back together again, too.

Even the hint of a suggestion at the possibility that Anderson has anything in common with Warner is a 'tad' overstated...

I can't help but wonder how Fitz is going to do this year. Ariz's window sure looks cracked.

I don't think it matters which QB they go with, Fitzgerald will still be a top 20 WR. His ability at the WR position will keep him in the top 20 barring any injuries during the year. As for top ten, I think it will be tough for him either way.

Timothy, I wouldn't exactly call spending a second round pick on a top 10-20 WR a bargain. However, spending a very late pick on Anderson, can pay off in a big way. Otherwise, he is the guy you drop when you pick up your first FA.
