Patriots D taking on water

Posted Aug. 31 at 11:28 PM

Want a reason to have interest in Tom Brady, Randy Moss and Wes Welker this year? Here's one: It looks like New England could be involved in a lot of high-octane shootouts.

New England placed cornerback Leigh Bodden on injured reserve with a shoulder injury yesterday. Bodden wasn't just New England's best cornerback; he's their only proven one.

New England will most likely go with second-year corner Darius Butler and rookie Devin McCourty. Both guys are early picks, but both are very untested. It's a worrying situation for New England's defense, which had already lost defensive end Ty Warren for the season.

Upgrade opposing quarterbacks facing New England, and look for Brady and company to need to put plenty of points on the board in many of their games.

And this would be another reason to avoid any NE running back.

Same deal for Green Bay.They had to shelve 2 DB's

I thought about Green Bay, which won't have Al Harris or Atari Bigby, but Burnett might have beat out Bigby anyway -- he's probably better -- and Green Bay knew Al Harris wouldn't be ready for the start of the season (if at all); Tramon Williams had been their No. 3 corner for a while and started for Harris last year. And their other DBs are Pro Bowlers in Woodson and Collins. Definitely not as bad off as New England.
