Fantasy News
I'm looking at the Giants. One thing I notice about the Super Bowl champs is that their starters at quarterback and tailback have both have problems with turnovers. Brandon Jacobs fumbled five times last year while starting only 10 games. Over the last two years, he averages a fumble per every 48 touches (run, catch or return), which is No. 1 among running backs who've handled the ball at least 300 times.
Manning, on the other hand, tossed 20 interceptions last year (in just the regular season games) and fumbled 13 times. The Giants lost 7 of those 13 fumbles. So Manning last year averaged a turnover per every 21.7 touches (and for QBs, I'm calculating touches by adding up pass attempts, sacks and runs). That came in at 2nd worst among the 27 quarterbacks with at least 300 touches, behind only buttery-fingered Kurt Warner (who was the last guy besides Manning to start at quarterback for the Giants).
I'm not saying to avoid either Manning or Jacobs in fantasy drafts. I don't think these turnover numbers significantly affect either guy's value. But this is the time of year when I spend most of my time looking through the various stat charts, making note of such things.
