Chris Johnson / goal-line running

Posted May. 02 at 03:22 AM

The Titans have a new coach and a new offensive coordinator, and there were some comments over the weekend indicating they’ll make more of an effort to spell Chris Johnson this year. He was overworked last season.

One of those areas could be around the goal line. The team drafted Jamie Harper in the fourth round. He weighs 235 pounds – 44 more than Johnson. The rookie potentially could be used in some goal-line situations.

That would be a big change versus last year, when Johnson carried the ball on all but one of the team’s 20 running plays inside the 5.

Hmmm... Do you know CJ's inside-the-5 stats last year or (perhaps better) his goal-line stats? How did they compare to others in the NFL?

In 2009 inside the 5, Johnson carried 13 times for 16 yards, with 6 TDs. Last year, he carried 19 times for 15 yards and 5 TDs. So, he had 6 more carries last season than in his big season (when he scored a bunch of longer touchdowns).

Thank you, Ian.
