Vernon Davis is the fastest tight end in the league, and he does a good job of using that speed to get downfield. Look at the stats below, which show the yards-per-catch averages for all the starting tight ends. Davis averages almost 3 more yards per catch than the vast majority of the other tight ends.

Reason #2 not to draft Hernandez: despite being the "downfield TE" in New England, his average is lower than Gronkowski's. (Reason #1: he and Ochocinco essentially play the same position in that offense.)
