Around the NFL
There are a couple of tidbits worth noting in John McClain’s weekly column.
McClain, of the Houston Chronicle, got a hold of Steve McNair. McNair says he expects the addition of Mike Heimerdinger (at offensive coordinator) will be a big help to Vince Young’s career. McNair, of course, played under Heimerdinger earlier in his career and had some of the same dual-threat abilities as Young, who didn’t appear to get along with Norm Chow last year.
McClain also says to look for Oklahoma’s Malcolm Kelly to take a huge fall in the draft. Kelly once looked like a solid contender to be the first wide receiver taken, but he ran a lackluster 4.68 in the 40 at his workout earlier this week, then angrily got into the blame game. He criticized the school’s doctors for mishandling a thigh injury, and he complained about having to run on field turf rather than a faster surface.
