Jeremy Shockey, according to today’s New York Daily News, definitely belongs on the list of players who potentially could be traded in the next few weeks.
GM Jerry Reese, according to an article by Ralph Vacchiano, admits that the Giants have had discussions with other teams about Shockey but that the team isn’t actively trying to move him. "Anything can happen in personnel," he said. "But right now, Jeremy Shockey is our starting tight end and we're looking forward for him to be back on the field for us this fall."
Vacchiano indicates that the Saints are the most likely trading partners. Shockey feels he’s used too much as a blocker by Tom Coughlin, and he had his best season when Sean Payton was running New York’s offense. Payton is now coaching the Saints – who have a big need at the position.
The chances of a deal actually getting done are probably down around 30 percent. The Giants supposedly declined an offer of a second-round pick from the Saints. "We're not just going to give him away," a team source told Vacchiano.
The complete article appears in today’s New York Daily News.
