With kickers, it’s not so much how good the player is – just about all of these guys hit 80-plus percent nowadays. The bigger question is how good is the team around them?
Good teams tend to move the ball and create touchdowns and field goal attempts, so kickers on those teams tend to do well. For the bad teams, they don’t tend to create enough of those opportunities, and their kickers tend to struggle.
Matt Stover fit this profile nicely last season. When the wheels fell off for this team in mid-October last year, he then became an afterthought as a fantasy option.
