DeSean Jackson vs. Ted Ginn; a comparison

Posted May. 02 at 12:47 PM

DeSean Jackson lasted until the 49th pick of the draft. Ted Ginn was selected 9th overall last year.

That doesn’t make sense.

These guys are very similar. Both are small, ultra-fast receivers and returners, but the Eagles were able to get their guy 40 slots later. Not fair.

If you watch the highlight packages of these guys, in fact, I think Jackson looks a little better than Ginn. He’s almost as big (1 inch shorter and maybe 5 pounds lighter), but he appears to change directions better – both on routes and with the ball in his hands. Ginn has longer legs and is more of straight-line speed guy – not that he doesn’t have moves, but Jackson’s making cuts that look just unreal.

In terms of raw speed, I’m not sure which guy is faster. Jackson ran a 4.35 at the combine, the fastest of any wide receiver. Ginn, recall, didn’t run at the combine because he was still healing from the foot injury suffered on the kickoff return touchdown against Florida in the national championship game.

Very nice selection for the Eagles. They’ve gone four years without a punt or kickoff return for touchdown. I’ll bet that changes before Halloween.
